Over the past 12 years, Chris has built and managed the NHS VAT practice of CRS VAT Consulting to become a leading provider of VAT services to the NHS. Chris’ range of experience includes development and implementation of complex NHS business/non-business and partial exemption VAT methods to obtain maximum VAT savings.

Diana Glasspool
VAT Services Operations Manager

Diana has extensive experience in carrying out the full range of NHS VAT reviews and advisory services. Diana has extensive experience of VAT advisory services and business & partial exemption VAT methods in the public NHS and private sectors. Diana brings over 29 years of VAT experience gained within HMRC as a senior control officer and as head of VAT for in-house VAT departments of large commercial organisations.

Henry Hoad
VAT Services Technical Manager

Henry joined CRS VAT Consulting from HM Revenue & Customs. Henry has been the key senior VAT officer of HMRC’s NHS VAT Team for over 17 years, having spent 40 years in HMRC working in VAT from the very beginning of the tax in the UK. Henry advises clients on a range of complex VAT transactions and legal precedents and conducting VAT seminars.

Leonard Hunter
VAT Consultant

Leonard has extensive experience of VAT and duties advisory services and business & partial exemption methods in the public NHS, local authority and private sectors and brings over 30 years of VAT experience gained within HMRC and large accountancy firms. Leonard’s range of VAT experience includes briefing clients on possible effects of legislative changes/outcomes of legal cases and representing clients in negotiations with HMRC to obtain optimal VAT outcomes.

Christopher Woodfall
VAT Consultant

Chris is an Accounting and Finance graduate and Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) qualified. He is currently a CTA student. Since joining CRS VAT Consulting in 2010 he has applied new methods of manipulating the data we receive in order to optimise our reviews carried out on site which in turn leads to a greater level of VAT recovery and compliance. Chris’ range of experience also includes development and implementation of complex NHS business/non-business and partial exemption VAT methods which have been approved by HM Revenue & Customs. Given Chris’ expertise in handling large amounts of data he has been responsible for a number of our larger clients.

Duncan Groves
Head of Employment Taxes

After graduating in law, Duncan joined the Inland Revenue in PAYE Audit. He moved into the profession in 1988 working with a top 20 firm before joining a specialist tax investigation consultancy in 1991. While there, Duncan identified the public sector as a key target area for employer compliance reviews and began a career long association. This has taken him to WJB Chiltern where he led the Public Sector Tax division and grew a 12 strong team of tax specialists, RSM Bentley Jennison (subsequently RSM Tenon) and Grant Thornton, where he represented Tax on the national Health Board. Duncan joins the CRS team with the task of making it the premier provider of multi-tax services in the Health sector market.

Now with 24 years’ experience in NHS employment taxes, Duncan joins from Grant Thornton and spearheads the firm’s transition from a VAT-focussed to an all taxes public sector business.

John Harling
Employment Taxes Consultant

John is an employment taxes expert and has more than 20 years’ experience of working with public sector bodies in all aspects of PAYE, National Insurance and benefits in kind.
He spent 5 years as a PAYE Auditor with the Inland Revenue (as was) before spending the next 15 working in the “Big 4”specialising in advising all types of public sector bodies including many NHS Acute, Mental Health and Ambulance Trusts.

John has vast experience in employment tax and related areas, such as HMRC Employer Compliance reviews, PAYE/NIC health checks, employments status issues, termination payments, salary sacrifice arrangements and the Construction Industry Scheme.

Peter Minchinton
Employment Taxes Consultant

Peter started his tax career with the Inland Revenue and finished his time there as an Inspector of Taxes leading an investigation team. He moved into the profession in 1989 and worked with two of the ‘Big 4’ accountancy firms concentrating on tax investigations and employment taxes before joining a car leasing company designing and implementing Employee Car Ownership Schemes.

Peter returned to the profession in 2008 with RSM Bentley Jennison (subsequently RSM Tenon/Baker Tilly) and then with Grant Thornton where he concentrated on employment taxes in the public sector with emphasis on the NHS.

His NHS clients included both NHS Trusts and CCG. With the former he worked tax status reviews following the Treasury review of personal service companies and on the introduction of various salary sacrifice schemes including cars, workplace car parking and professional subscriptions. With CCG he concentrated on advising clients on the HMRC review of off-payroll payments to Governing Body members.

Now with over 40 years’ experience in tax, Peter will be working with Duncan and John to help the firm’s transition from a VAT-focussed to an all taxes public sector business.
