As part of our service offering to the NHS, we are committed to providing a ‘free’ helpline service for our clients to provide day-to-day VAT advice.   Helpline queries generally include things such as:

  • looking at a specific supplier invoice to tell you whether the VAT is eligible for recovery
  • providing general advice on the types of supply eligible for recovery under a certain COS heading
  • providing advice on whether a certain purchase from donated funds can get VAT relief
  • determining whether VAT should be declared on certain income streams

In our experience, we are able to answer the majority of VAT queries immediately (i.e. if you telephone us) or within half-an-hour of the call.  We will provide you with a list of office and mobile telephone numbers and email addresses to contact us on.

We aim to confirm all queries via e-mail or if required, by letter.  You can also submit queries via e-mail, in writing or via our technical queries web-page at www.crsvat.com.  If a query is expected to take more than half-an-hour to resolve, we would expect to treat this as an additional VAT advisory assignment and if appropriate, we would agree any fees with you before proceeding any further.

Attendance & support during HMRC visits or desktop reviews

HMRC operate a visiting and/or desktop review programme for NHS organisations in order to ‘police’ VAT compliance.  We are able to assist in making sure such a review is as streamlined and problem free as possible in order to mitigate unnecessary assessments and penalties.
